Azercell now roaming in Afganistan

Azercell Telecom LLC, Azerbaijan’s cellular network operator, has put into operation international roaming service with Afghanistan, Etisalat (GSM 900/1800) operator. This is the first roaming agreement with the Afghanistan mobile companies. Azercell has signed up 347 roaming agreements with mobile communication operators from 141 countries of the world.

Azerfon get new CEO

Azerfon have announced changes in the management structure. General Director/CEO, John Armley has decided to leave the company as of mid-May and Guido Helbich will assume his position.

Telnor and TeliaSonera merger?

Norwegian telecoms group Telenor is looking at the possibility of a merger with Swedish rival TeliaSonera, and is using the services of Nordea and JP Morgan to analyse a potential deal, according to Svenska Dagbladet newspaper, who cite ‘people with insight into the process’.

TPSA release subscriber numbers

The incumbent Polish telco TPSA ended 1Q with 49,000 subscribers to its IPTV service, up 9,000 from three months earlier. It also finished with 405,000 Livebox and 164,000 VoIP subscribers at the end of 1Q, while its retail broadband subscriber total was 2,079,000. TPSA are going to launch Poland’s fourth DTH platform later this year.

MT buy media groups

Fixed-line incumbent in Hungary Magyar Telekom (MT) has announced plans to buy out its partner IKO Production and purchase 100 percent stakes in domestic media content firms IKO New Media and IKO Content and Rights, according to Reuters.
