Azerfon, known locally as Nar Mobile, deployed 55 new base stations last month, lifting overall network coverage to 80 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory.
Azerfon was granted a GSM-900/1800 licence in December 2005 and launched GSM/GPRS/EDGE services in late March 2007. According to the Blycroft Database it currently has 700,000 subscribers, around 12 percent of the market, behind Bakcell with 26 percent and Azercell with 61 percent; both of whom are competing GSM-900/1800 operators in the region.
